July Heat 8×12 Matted Print

July 2017 brought little rain and relief from the heat in western South Dakota. On this particular evening, I’d intended to shoot the wheat fields with the reflection of the setting sun against the eastern sky. I received a show of colors that I hadn’t bargained for! A sliver of light broke through as the storm clouds moved from the western horizon to my back, creating a more vibrant golden glow to the east than would have otherwise been. As the colors merged and lighting flashed in the east a short wind tunnel dropped slightly. It lasted for about five minutes as it continued on and then dissipated back into the storm clouds. The colors of sunset continued to splash their reflection, delivering an array of pink and golden tones to the sky.
