2021 Black Hills Stock Show Quick Draw

Earlier this month, I spent 10 days at the Black Hills Stock Show Western Art Show where I exhibited and sold photographs, along with nine other regional artists. It’s always refreshing to be around other creatives and this year was no exception.

The last Friday of the Stock Show, a Quick Draw is held in the Theater Lobby where the art show takes place. Several artists, in addition to those selling their work, gathered together to create a presentable work of art within 1.25 hours. A traditional Quick Draw starts with a blank medium (canvas, paper, etc.), but artists also have the option to have their background in place or their subject sketched out before applying the final touches during the Quick Draw.

The public is encouraged to vote for People’s Choice, which receives a $500 award. At the end of the Quick Draw, all pieces are auction off with half of the proceeds going to the artist and the other half to the Central States Fair Foundation for scholarships.

I’ve been photographing the event for the past few years and was finally able to download the photos and add a few quick edits. Took me less than an hour. 😉
